I’m a bit delayed in posting this, but we very much enjoyed last week’s transit of Venus. We almost didn’t get to see it–after a sunny morning we had a dense cloud cover roll in in the afternoon. We settled for watching the NASA broadcast from Hawaii, but as bedtime approached I kept looking out the window and noticed the sky clearing on the western horizon. The sun finally escaped from the clouds about 15 minutes before sunset, so we all ran out to see what we could see. We used the same binocular projection trick that worked so well for the solar eclipse, but I had also managed to get hold of several pairs of solar viewing glasses which made a big hit. Venus was a tiny speck close to the 3 o’clock position on the sun when we saw it.
